outstanding achievement in teaching
and service by naming its 2026 Faculty
of the Year award recipients.

Dr. Mark William Westmoreland,
College Lecturer II, Philosophy
Dom Corcuera,
Dr. Westmoreland, who joined OCC in
2020, was recognized for his interdisciplinary approach to teaching philosophy,
ethics, and religion, emphasizing realworld connections and student engagement. Students praise his accessibility,
dedication, and commitment to incorporating feedback into the classroom
experience. In addition to his extensive
scholarly work, Dr. Westmoreland is
highly engaged on campus, mentoring Honors by Contract students, cofounding student initiatives including
the Free School and The Great Debate,
advising multiple student organizations, and serving on numerous college
committees and leadership initiatives.
Professor Corcuera, adjunct professor
at OCC since 2015, teaches introductory and basic chemistry with an innovative, student-centered approach.
Currently pursuing a second master’s
degree focused on chemistry education,
Professor Corcuera is dedicated to helping students see the real-world value of
chemistry. Students praise his ability to
build their confidence, reduce anxiety
around science, and inspire curiosity
and discovery. In addition to teaching,
Professor Corcuera actively contributes
to the College through professional
development initiatives, pilot programs,
and participation in campus meetings
and Teaching and Learning Institutes.

Year Award winners are selected annually by committee from nominations
submitted by students, faculty and staff.
